1. Who we are
Above The Numbers (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website at https://abovethenumbers.blog. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you give us directly
- Contact forms: name, email address, and any other information you choose to include in a message.
- Newsletter signup: name and email address.
- Comments (if enabled): name, email, website, and the comment text. Your comment and email may be checked against the Gravatar service to display a profile photo.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Analytics: Page URL, page title, referring URL, browser type, operating system, screen resolution, anonymized IP address (we mask the last two octets — for example,
192.168.0.0), country/region inferred from your browser language, and approximate visit duration. Analytics is self-hosted on our infrastructure; no third-party analytics provider receives your data. - Server logs: standard web-server access logs, including requested URL, timestamp, and IP address (retained briefly for security and operational purposes).
- Cloudflare: our site is fronted by Cloudflare’s edge network. Cloudflare may process IP address, request metadata, and security-related signals to protect against abuse and deliver content. See Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.
2.3 Cookies and similar technologies
By default, we do not set persistent visitor cookies. If you accept cookies via our consent banner, our analytics may set a first-party visitor identifier so we can count returning vs. new visitors. The site may use temporary functional cookies if you log in or post a comment. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
3. How we use information
- Respond to contact-form messages.
- Send the newsletter you subscribed to (and unsubscribe you on request).
- Operate, secure, and improve the website.
- Aggregate, anonymized analytics to understand which content is read.
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it for automated decision-making with legal effects.
4. Service providers
We use a small number of providers to operate the site. Each only receives the information needed to perform its function:
- Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) — transactional and newsletter email delivery. Receives your email address and message content. Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare — content delivery, DDoS protection, and TLS
termination. Receives IP address and request metadata. Privacy Policy. - Gravatar (Automattic) — comment-author profile images,
only if comments are enabled. Privacy Policy.
5. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may disclose information only:
- To the service providers listed above to deliver the site to you;
- If required by valid legal process (subpoena, court order); or
- To protect the rights, property, or safety of Above The Numbers or others.
6. Data retention
- Newsletter subscriptions: retained until you
unsubscribe. - Contact-form submissions: retained while needed to
respond to your inquiry, then deleted within a reasonable period. - Analytics data: retained in aggregated/anonymized form indefinitely; raw visit logs are subject to deletion under our internal retention policy.
- Server logs: rotated and deleted on a short cycle.
7. Children’s privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently received such information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Your privacy rights
8.1 California (CCPA / CPRA), Virginia (VCDPA), Colorado (CPA), Connecticut (CTDPA), Utah (UCPA), and similar state laws
Depending on your state of residence, you may have the right to:
- Know what personal information we have collected about you;
- Request a copy of that information;
- Request correction of inaccurate information;
- Request deletion of your information;
- Opt out of “sale” or “sharing” of your information (we do not engage in either);
- Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
8.2 How to exercise your rights
Contact us with the subject line “Privacy Request” describing what you’d like us to do. We will respond within 45 days. We may need to verify your identity before acting on the request.
8.3 Manage consent and tracking preferences
You can manage your cookie and tracking preferences at any time on the Opt-Out Preferences page. We also honor browser-level Do Not Track (DNT) signals — if your browser sends a DNT request, our analytics will not record the visit.
9. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including TLS encryption in transit, restricted access to backend systems, and IP anonymization in analytics. No method of transmission over the internet is perfectly secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top reflects the most recent revision. Significant changes will be highlighted on the website.
